What exactly is Lavender Hydrosol?

Lavender Hydrosol is an all-natural, refreshing water that is created when steam distilled lavender essential oil is suspended among its molecules. When we distill the essential oils, the steam opens the pores of the plant and allows the steam to carry the oils away. The steam and the oil are collected and condensed by cold water into a liquid form. Due to their specific gravity differences, the oil floats, and the water sinks. The water is drained off and is now Lavender Hydrosol or “Flower Water”.

Is Lavender Hydrosol Just Water and Lavender Essential Oil?

The basic answer is yes however, there are some differences. If you take lavender essential oils and add it to water, you technically have Lavender Hydrosol or Linen Spray. After a few minutes, the oil will float to the top and you will be left with water coming out of the mister so you must shake it regularly. During the distillation process, some of the water-soluble oils are permanently suspended in the water so they wont float to the top.

What are the ingredients in Lavender Hydrosol?

Lavender Hydrosol is an all-natural mixture of essential oil and a large volume distilled water. It is not altered or diluted in any way. It remains intact in its original state, reference the paragraph above for how it’s made.

How Is it Different From Essential Oils?

While lavender hydrosol and essential oils are both derived from the same plant, there are a few key differences between them. Essential oil is extracted through a steaming process, while hydrosol is collected through condensation as a byproduct of the distillation process. This means that lavender hydrosol contains some water-soluble compounds, while essential oil does not. Thus, the effects of lavender hydrosol may be more subtle than those of essential oils, yet just as beneficial.
